Planning a trip to Avila Beach, give yourself extra time for getting to your destination because a recently adopted parking procedure has led to long lines and traffic jams.
Last month, the Port San Luis Harbor District put into place a new parking lot requirement. If you want to park in the lot, you must pay $6 and type your license plate number into one of three kiosks.
As a result, kiosk lines can take up to 30 minutes to get through and drivers are spending extra time searching for one of the free street parking spaces available causing an increase in traffic in the area.
Because of the issues, Port San Luis Harbor District is considering adding a fourth kiosk for payments and online parking permits.
Parking tickets for violating the procedure cost $40.
