A 19-year-old Cambria man is dead following a surfing accident at Moonstone Beach.

Liam Taylor was surfing with several friends when he attempted to catch a large wave. Witnesses said the wave threw Taylor into the sand causing head and neck injuries.

Witnesses pulled Taylor from the water and performed CPR. Taylor never regained consciousness.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the manner and cause of death, according to a press release.
