Police shoot and kill Santa Maria man, rescue child

Los Angeles police shot and killed a Santa Maria man on Tuesday who was suspected of shooting his ex-wife and abducting their 9-year-old son.

About 6:45 p.m., police confronted Konstantin Morozov, 48, as he was leaving a friend’s home in Encino with his son, according to police. Police then shot and killed Konstantin Morozov, who was armed with a handgun.

Shortly before 9 p.m. on Monday, Konstantin Morozov shot and killed his ex-wife, Natalia Morozova. Police then issued an Amber Alert for Daniel Morozov, a third grader.

After receiving a tip that Konstantin Morozov might be in Tarzana, the FBI contacted the Los Angeles Police Department, according to police.

Police kept the suspect under surveillance at a condominium near the border of Encino and Tarzana, until the suspect left with his son. The boy, who was not injured during the shooting, is now in protective custody.

    This is the saddest story ever. That poor child, this will haunt him for the rest of his life. Too many stories lately of estranged couples ending with the murder of the wife. My prayers to this young boy.
