A Santa Maria man is in critical condition after he was shot in the chest early Monday morning on the 900 block of West El Camino, according to the Santa Maria Police Department. Police suspect the shooting was gang related.

Shortly before 1 a.m., a caller reported a man had been shot in the chest. Responders then transported the man to a local hospital with critical injuries.

It has not been determined if the shooting is related to the murder of a man last week. On Sept. 3, a 19-year-old Santa Maria man was shot and killed on the 2000 block of North Lazo Way.

Police have not identified a suspect or suspects in either of the recent shootings.
