CHP officers arrested a man late Tuesday night after chasing the 25-year-old from Nipomo to Templeton.
Shortly before 11 p.m., San Luis Obispo sheriff deputies spotted a Toyota Tacoma speeding in Nipomo. CHP officers than took over the pursuit as the truck headed northbound on Highway 101 near the Higuera Street exit in San Luis Obispo.
The man then took the Highway 58 Santa Margarita exit and headed for Atascadero. A spike strip at Santa Barbara Road punctured the majority of the trucks tires, but the chase continued with the driver heading north on Highway 101.
After a 30 minute chase, the driver exited at Las Tablas Road in Templeton where officers took Brandon Malterer of Apple Valley into custody.
While searching Malterer’s truck, officers found a loaded short-barreled rifle and methamphetamine.
Officers arrested Malterer on charges of reckless driving, evading, possession of a short-barreled rifle and possession of a controlled substance and booked him into the San Luis Obispo County Jail.
