A man with a knife robbed an Atascadero Carl’s Jr. on Wednesday, but he ran out of the restaurant with only about $70. He then attempted a carjacking and was about to drive off with a victim’s vehicle when police officers caught him.
Shortly after 5 p.m., Roberto Ramos, 29, entered the Carl’s Jr. at 7085 El Camino Real, brandished a knife and demanded money from restaurant employees, according to an Atascadero Police Department news release.
Officers arrived at the scene within minutes and saw Ramos fleeing from the Carl’s Jr.
Ramos ran into the Vons parking lot, pulled his knife on a male victim and demanded his keys, according to the press release. The victim gave Ramos his keys.
Police pulled up at the scene of the carjacking attempt just as Ramos was receiving the keys and arrested him.
Officers booked Ramos into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on charges of robbery and attempted carjacking. Ramos remains in jail with his bail set at $100,000.
