The Atascadero City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday to approve alcohol sales at two additional locations in the city. Both the 99 Cents Only Store and Cigarettes 4 Less have applied to the state for licenses to sell beer and wine.
Located in the Vons shopping center, the 99 Cents store has had issues in the past with transients gathering outside the store. Several of the neighboring stores have shuttered, leaving multiple tenant vacancies.
Cigarettes 4 Less is located in the Kmart shopping center off El Camino Real. Following the passage of Proposition 56, which raised the state tax on a pack of 20 cigarettes from 87 cents to $2.87, tobacco sales have decreased prompting the store’s owner to seek additional products to generate revenue.
