An 82-year-old man was killed and another man was injured Saturday evening in a multiple car collision on Highway 101 in Paso Robles, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m., Richard Sauret was driving a Chevy Silverado northbound on Highway 101 just south of Wellsona Road when when he made a left turn into the southbound lanes and crashed into a GMC Yukon. Jorge Ayala, 24, of San Miguel was headed southbound on Highway 101 and was unable to stop before colliding with Sauret’s vehicle.

Sauret was pronounced dead at the scene.

After he was extricated from his car, emergency personnel transported Ayala to a local hospital where he is being treated for major injuries.

Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the crash, according to officers.
