Santa Barbara County authorities are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in the Santa Maria Riverbed Sunday evening.

Investigators are treating the case as a suspicious death, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office. The identity of the deceased woman is thus far unclear.

At 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, a passerby discovered the woman’s body in the riverbed. On Monday, the Sheriff’s Forensic Unit spent the day processing the scene.

As of Monday, the Santa Barbara County Coroner’s Office was still in the process of identifying the body.

Authorities have not released any additional information at this time.
