Another shooting in Santa Maria

Following four shootings in September, shots were fired in Santa Maria Wednesday evening, marking the first gunfire in the city in October. No one suffered injuries in the latest shooting

Shortly before 6:30 p.m., a gunman fired shots at a house and car in the area of Lazo Way and Rancho Verde, according to the Santa Maria Police Department.

Officers have yet to catch the suspect. An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

After months of relative calm in Santa Maria, there were two murders in the city in late August and early September. Wednesday’s shooting occurred near the location of the early September homicide that left a 19-year-old dead.

In 2015, Santa Maria had 13 murders. The city had at least nine homicides last year.
