Police identified a body found on the beach on Saturday three miles north of Cayucos as Rene Baltazar Monterrosa of Santa Maria.

Monterrosa, 57, was last seen on Oct. 8. Friends reported Monterrosa fell overboard while kayaking near Cayucos.

Last week, rescue personnel searched the same area after a kayak was spotted floating off shore.

Shortly before 2 p.m., a witness called 9-1-1 to report they had discovered the body on the beach. The sheriff’s department then identified the body and informed Monterrosa’s next of kin.
