A 32-year-old Cambria man hit a person in the face with a hatchet at a homeless camp on Friday, then managed to evade capture as a few law enforcement agencies searched for him both from the ground and the air.
Shortly before 2 p.m., Kellen Christopher Trimble began fighting with another man at a homeless camp off Highway 1 near Cambria Drive in Cambria. Trimble made multiple treats to kill the victim, then hit him the face with a hatchet, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office. The victim suffered only a minor laceration and refused medical treatment at the scene
Meanwhile, Trimble ran off and continued to flee as deputies, sheriff’s K9s, state park rangers, CHP officers and a CHP airplane all searched for him. Authorities suspended the search later on Friday.
Sheriff’s officials say Trimble is known to law enforcement, and authorities have recovered the hatchet he used in the attack. Trimble is wanted for attempted murder, but he does not pose a threat to the public, according to the sheriff’s office.
