Three Grover Beaches businesses cited for selling tobacco to minors

A sting operation in Grover Beach netted three businesses selling tobacco to minors, according to the city’s police department.

On Thursday, Grover Beach police, along with the SLO County Public Health Department’s Tobacco Control Program, conducted a tobacco sting at 18 different retail locations in the South County city. Three of the 18 stores sold tobacco products to an underage decoy participating in the sting, police said.

Under California law, it is now a misdemeanor to sell tobacco products to anyone under the age of 21. The news release does state how old the decoy was.

The three businesses that received citations were: Flyers Gas Station at 684 W. Grand Avenue, Gudalajara Market at 1400 W. Grand Avenue and Express Smoke Shop at 1051 S. 13th Street.

Grover Beach police encourage anyone who wants additional information about the sales of tobacco products to minors to call SLO County’s Tobacco Control Program at (805) 781-5564.
