Deputies arrested a man Monday evening who allegedly shot a U.S. Forest Service worker. The suspect then led officers on a chase through Fort Hunter Liggett in southern Monterey County.
Shortly after 5 p.m., the suspect allegedly shot the government employee on Nacimiento-Fergusson Road. The suspect, who was driving a red pickup truck, then fled on rural roads before entering Fort Hunter Liggett.
During the chase, the deputies and the suspect exchanged gunfire.
The U.S. Forest Service worker survived the shooting and was transported to the hospital, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities have yet to disclose the identity of the victim or the suspect.
