Van crashes into building in SLO, ignites house fire

A van slammed into a power pole and a building in San Luis Obispo early Tuesday morning. The crash knocked down power lines and ignited a house fire across the street from the collision, according to the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

Shortly before 5 a.m., a SLO Baked Bakery van came to a rest with two of its wheels on a Santa Barbara Street sidewalk. No one suffered injuries in the crash, Police Chief Deanna Cantrell tweeted.

Power lines fell in the street near the house that caught fire. The house sustained major fire damage.

Police closed Santa Barbara Street between High and Osos streets and the intersection of Upham and Morro streets.

KSBY reports the house is a total loss, but four residents who were living there managed to escape safely. However, a cat died in the fire.
