Sarah Beth Murphy McComack, 33, had been in custody since Wednesday on charges of grand theft, possession of burglary tools and providing false information to officers. At about 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, she began showing symptoms of a medical emergency.
Murphy McComack received aid from medical staff at the jail and was then transported by an ambulance to Ventura County Medical Center. Meanwhile, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office dispatched a deputy to the hospital to provide security during Murphy McComack’s visit.
When the deputy arrived, he learned Murphy McComack had asked to use the restroom, then walked out of the emergency room and disappeared.
At about 11:07 a.m., officers located Murphy McComack near the hospital and detained her. Officers rearrested Murphy McComack on a charge of escaping custody and took her back to jail.
