Two people wounded in Santa Maria shooting

The city of Santa Maria had its first non-officer-involved shooting of 2018, as two people were shot and wounded early Tuesday morning.

Both victims suffered non-life threatening injuries in the shooting, which occurred at about 1:20 a.m. in the 1700 block of N. Lynne Drive, according to the Santa Maria Police Department. Police are searching for multiple outstanding suspects, and no arrests have been made.

In Santa Maria’s first shooting of 2018, officers shot and killed a suicidal man armed with two knives. The incident marked the second time in two years that Santa Maria police shot and killed an allegedly suicidal man who was armed with a knife.

Anyone who has information about Tuesday morning’s shooting is urged to contact the Santa Maria Police Department.
