San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s deputies converged on an Avila Beach house that a suicidal man was inside on Tuesday. Six hours later, officers entered the home and found the man had shot and killed himself.
At about 2 p.m., a relative called the sheriff’s office after the man made suicidal statements. Deputies arrived at the property, where the man was alone inside the house, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies set up a perimeter around the home, and a standoff appeared to ensue. The deputies tried unsuccessfully to make contact with the man.
After several hours passed without the man responding, sheriff’s detectives obtained a search warrant. Then at approximately 8 p.m., members of the SWAT team entered the home and found the man dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Investigators do not suspect any foul play was involved in the man’s death. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Sheriff’s officials are withholding the man’s identity while relatives are notified.
