Fire breaks out near Grover Beach elementary school

Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire that started in the backyard of a home in Grover Beach Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly before 2 p.m., the fire was reported at a property in the 1200 block of Driftwood Street. The location is near Fairgrove Elementary School, but the fire did not threaten the school.

Five Cities Fire Authority officials say firefighters contained the blaze to a fence and yard items. It is unclear what caused the fire.

An investigation is ongoing.
