Storm causes mudslides, flooding and road closures in SLO County

On the second day of a storm that is pounding the Central Coast, two stretches of Highway 1 in San Luis Obispo County are closed Wednesday morning as rockslides, mudslides and flooding are occurring.

On the north coast, a mudslide is blocking Highway 1 by Ragged Point. Northbound traffic can get as far as Ragged Point, but it cannot proceed further.

Also, Highway 1 is closed between Ragged Point and Salmon Creek in Monterey County because of rockslides. A rockslide also occurred near Cambria Tuesday night, which closed Santa Rosa Creek Road between Highway 46 and the north coast community.

Highway 1 is likewise closed between 13th and Paso Robles streets in Oceano as a result of flooding. There have been reports of flooding in multiple locations in the county, including on Highway 101 near Arroyo Grande.

The CHP is responding to several vehicle collisions in SLO County.

In Santa Barbara County, rain is also falling. Mandatory evacuations are in effect in the recent burn areas, including in Montecito.
