Two people died and others suffered major injuries in a multi-vehicle collision at the Cholame “Y” Friday morning.
Emergency responders handled a total of 11 patients following the crash, according to Cal Fire. Both ground and air ambulances transported injured people.
Multiple fire engines also came out to the scene. The collision occurred shortly before 6 a.m.
After the crash, authorities closed both Highway 41 and Highway 46 around Highway 33. Major delays are expected between the coast and the Central Valley.
Officials have yet to release further information about the crash.
Due the numerous amount of fatal crashes at the Cholame Y, the state of California recently allocated funds toward redesigning the interchange.
