Two cars catch fire within minutes in SLO County

Within minutes of one another, a car caught on fire on the Cuesta Grade and another vehicle became engulfed in flames between Morro Bay and Atascadero Sunday evening. [KSBY]

Shortly before 8 p.m., a car fire occurred on Highway 101 near Stagecoach Road, sending smoke into the air on the Cuesta Grade. The blaze reportedly spread to nearby vegetation.

Firefighters from Cal Fire and the San Luis Obispo Fire Department worked to extinguish the blaze. CHP officers also responded to the scene.

At about 8:15 p.m., a Volkswagen Beetle became engulfed in flames on Highway 41 near Bear Ridge Road. Firefighters managed to prevent this car fire from spreading into nearby vegetation.

Cal Fire and Morro Bay firefighters teamed up to extinguish the second blaze. There were no reports of injuries in either incident.
