Fire burns 100 acres in northeastern SLO County

A fire burned 100 acres in northeastern San Luis Obispo County on Thursday, before firefighters managed to extinguish it.

The blaze broke out east of Shandon in the 6200 block of Bitterwater Road in the late morning, according to Cal Fire. Initially, personnel who arrived at the scene in an aircraft said approximately 20 acres of grass were burning.

Firefighters battled the blaze, which officials dubbed the Water Fire, from the air and ground. They achieved full containment within a few hours.

Officials released all fire crews and equipment from the scene of the blaze in the afternoon. The cause of the fire is unclear.
