A big rig truck collided with the back of a sedan Monday morning, totaling the car and sending its driver to the hospital.

The collision occurred near the intersection of Bonita School Road and W. Main Street, according to the Guadalupe Fire Department. The location is between Santa Maria and Guadalupe near Bonita Elementary School and Betteravia Farms.

After the truck apparently hit the rear end of the car, the driver of the sedan suffered moderate to major injuries. Emergency responders transported the victim to Marian Regional Medical Center.

The driver of the semi truck came away from the collision uninjured. The sedan sustained major damage, while the big rig had minor front end damage.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.
